Bond was originally set at $ 100,000.00 for Brent's release on electronic monitoring, under parental supervision and Adult Probation Services, then reduced to $ 10,000.00, THEN to NOTHING. We spent months trying to raise that money, before we decided to ask the Judge to release him without bond:
SMALL bond for "Intentional Terrorism" AND Weapons AND Kidnapping AND Aggravated Assaullt AND Intention to Interfere with a Public Institution-- AND TWO counts of Dangerous Crimes Against Children, even though the victim is OLDER and walked away without a scratch...?
Maybe Brent wasn't REALLY dangerous OR a flight risk. Maybe he should have been in the juvenile system. Maybe others wanted the answers we've finally found (and are now prevented from pursuing). Brent was home, under house arrest, from 9 November 2007 through 8 May 2008-- six full months, and perfect behavior. Including tons of Service in the Community, Fundraising, and being recognized with several (5) prestigious Awards! Were you in danger for the last 6 months and didn't know? Or DO we know our child well enough to supervise him, care for his medical and behavioral needs, AND monitor his continuing education?
Brent is being DENIED medical and educational resources-- even housed with under-age "adults". THIS is the ONLY part of the Plea A:greement: we're absolutely against: continued incarceration, removing rehabilitative and educational opportunities: THIS is what he will return to society with: an incomplete 8th-grade education, no therapy or counseling for social and cognitive development during his formative years that are necessary to function in society, no employment prospects, and no financial earning future sufficient to both repay his debts and live a meaningful life.
Which person would YOU rather have living in your neighborhood-- the one whose parents took responsibility for him and made him toe the line, or the one produced by two+ years of unproductive, unsupervised "rehabilitation" in an adult prison facility??? Because ONE of them WILL be coming HOME!
GUESS WHICH ONE YOU GET TO DEAL WITH NOW???
(He's an ADULT now, remember: on an equal footing with YOU!)
